Why BJP's 'Sampark for Samarthan' is a failed exercise, an excuse for 'sampark for survival'

The BJP has launched a programme —  "Sampark for Samarthan" — and through this agenda they aim to reach out to one lakh prominent personalities from various fields and explain to them the achievements of the NDA government led by them.

The people they will meet are the ones who are very influential and can influence the general public, because they have followers who believe in them and will listen to what they say. Film stars, sportspersons, religious leaders and many such prominent citizens of our country are on this list.

The BJP, now feeling the heat, has realised that people have begun to understand that the incumbent government is failing to deliver on all the promises that they made during the 2014 general elections.

All that they promised to the voters was just a gimmick. The party worked on a negative propaganda based on conjectures and this was used to spread canards against the then incumbent UPA government. The question that arises is — why is it meeting just a selective few people and not the common citizens? The answers to this question can be many.

A few important ones to begin with are — why are the party leaders not meeting the farmers of our country, is it because they have failed to support them? They promised loan waivers in various states, but it has not been fulfilled so far. Farmers are still committing suicide on a regular basis and the situation is so bad that in Maharashtra the farmers are coming to "Mantralaya" — the state’s secretariat to end their lives.

Farmers are not getting the desired value for their crops and therefore to get the attention of the government, which they think has now become insensitive, the farmers who have worked so hard to grow their produce are now throwing it away on the streets.

They have reached a stage where if they do not get what is due to them, they would rather have nothing. So, whatever this government tries now will not be able to convince a majority of the farming community and therefore the BJP is not meeting them.

They had promised  two crore jobs every year and it has been four years since they assumed office. So, technically they should have given eight crore jobs to the job seekers, but the picture is completely different in our country. Having no answers to this promise that the party leaders made, they came up with an absurd thought that, selling "pakodas" was also an alternative employment.

Yes, it is, but not for those who have put in hard work and toiled to educate themselves and have earned their degrees in the hope of landing stable jobs. The youth and those who are still unemployed have lost faith in this government too.

There are many other promised issues which the BJP said it will fulfil and would make sure that it is not like what the UPA government was. It said the government would reduce fuel prices, control inflation and the list is long.

After coming to power, it brought in demonetisation, saying that it will curb terrorism and black money, but failed there too and the result is out there for all to see. Demonetisation actually resulted in more pain for the people during its implementation and took away a few lives too. Have the BJP leaders met the ones who have lost their loved ones during this painful saga?

With the forthcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections just about a year away, the BJP now knows that it can no longer get the kind of support/votes it managed to get using negative propaganda, canards and aggressive social media campaign in 2014. The people of our country can now see through its agenda.

The prime example of this is the reaction of the people against the BJP on social media of late, what the leaders used to poison the minds of the people with is now coming back to hurt them badly.

Now that they are beginning to lose the confidence of the people and knowing that they may not be able to win as many seats as they won in the last general election with this strategy, they are working on another idea to bring about what they have lost.

Their new idea is to woo the people to vote for them through these famous personalities, to whom they are trying to explain their achievements.

They want to use these people to influence their fans and followers and to change their minds that have gone against them. All these famous personalities like film stars and sportsmen have millions of followers collectively and as fans they may listen to their idols and do as they say.

Now the point is how much success can be achieved with this newly implemented idea will only be known with time. But keeping in mind the current scenario and state of affairs in our country, the fans may not fall prey to this propaganda. Also, the other question is, will all these famous personalities who have been approached agree to be a part of this programme and do as the BJP desires?

It could be safely concluded that this "Sampark for Samarthan" actually appears to be "sampark for survival" for the BJP.
