Lockdown Diary Of A Teenager: What's worse than staying home? Mum's the word!

Reality hits the hardest at 4 pm.

It is fair to say that the only thing as uncertain as the coronavirus is the ‘routine’ of a teenager in lockdown. The quarantine situation has turned out to be a bane for teenagers who are unable to meet their friends or go out to play.

Let us also not forget to mention our dear mothers who are on the verge of a physical and psychological breakdown. Both teenagers and parents alike, have already demarcated different areas of their abodes to stay out of each other’s hair.

After all, what is worse than staying home? Getting ‘mummy lectures’ every day.

9 am: Our eyes open to yet another day in the times of social isolation. Reluctantly, we are forced to leave the comfort of our beds and start the seemingly never-ending day but first: Wash hands!

10 am: Hmmm... let us see what the world is up to. Log on to Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. We spend the rest of our peaceful time scrolling through new coronavirus-related memes and wallow in self-pity as we see the sorry state of different friends on their Snapchat stories.

11.30 am: The ‘mummy marathon’ begins. “Uff! Stop vegetating on the couch and help me with some chores!” It is officially time to stop gramming and get to work (online classes included!).

1.30 pm: Finally, after toiling for what seemed like eternity, it is time for lunch and then a couple of hours of undisturbed siesta.

4 pm: This is the time of the day where reality hits us hard, as no option to play or go outdoors is available. Well, then it’s either improvisation or for those who are lucky to have some equipment; a quick gym sesh (after all, those abs mustn’t fade)! Perhaps, we may even work on sharpening those skills.

6 pm: After working a nice sweat, as we get ready to go back into hibernation mode, it’s mummy action once again. “Go freshen up and then help me make something for dinner! And don’t forget to wash your hands!”

8.15 pm: Well, it’s not ratatouille but it is... something. At least mummy’s leftover rajma chawal can be of some use along with her turmeric and ginger carrot soup to boost immunity!

9 pm: The day has finally come to an end. All that is left to do is a game night, watch Netflix and grab our favourite tub of ice cream... until tomorrow!
