Every year, the sharpest minds from the business world land at a tiny ski resort in Switzerland, Davos, for a week of talking ideas and inspirations.
This is the World Economic Forum, taking place this year from January 16-20. For one week, Davos is the centre of world attention, thanks to the numerous guests it hosts.
Davos is an Alpine resort town and a municipality in the Prättigau/Davos Region in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It is home to about 11,000 people.
The municipality of Davos covers nearly the entire Landwasser valley in Switzerland. Two adjacent villages are the centre of population, administration and all economic activity.
The two villages are Davos Dorf (German for Davos Village) and Davos Platz (German for Davos Place). Both these villages are situated at 1,560 m (5,120 ft) above sea level.
Once the hard talk at WEF is over, people head out to hit the Alps. A trip to Davos is incomplete without skiing or snowboarding down Jakobshorn.
Lake Davos is another spot popular with tourists who go to this Swiss resort town. Lake Davos, a small alpine lake, is beautiful to say the least.
Rinerhorn is famous for its toboggan run. But: it is not for the faint of heart. There are 33 hairpin bends and pretty steep curves on the toboggan route down Rinerhorn.
The Fluela Pass is considered the boundary between Albula and Silvretta Alps. A ride down this pass takes you through the divide between the Danube and Rhine river basins.
Then, the Wiesen Viaduct. This six-arch, single-track bridge is Switzerland's most impressive. Get on a Glacier Express train on the Davos-Filisur section and see!
Davos is known for its wild beauty all round the year, but winter is when it comes alive. Tourists from across the globe zoom in on Davos. After all, it is ski season!
