Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that Visakhapatnam, or Vizag, will be the new capital of the state.

It is the second-largest city on the east coast of India after Chennai, and the fourth-largest in South India.
Vizag's history dates back to the 6th century BC, when it was considered part of the Kalinga kingdom.

Visakhapatnam port is India's third largest state-owned port by volume of cargo handled, and the largest on the eastern coast.

Other than being a port city, Vizag is known for its industries and is the ninth-largest contributor to India's GDP as of 2016.

Andhra had first chosen Amravati and then CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted 3 capitals, but finally, he has settled for Visakhapatnam.

Earlier, there was a master plan for developing Amaravati City, covering 217 sq km, by Foster + Partners.
