Prashant Singhal, the mayor of Aligarh Nagar Nigam, has announced that a resolution proposing changing the name of Aligarh to Harigarh has been passed by a civic body.

This proposal will be sent ahead to the government for consideration. A similar resolution has been passed by the district council.
