TripAdvisor recently announced its ranking of the world's best hotels in the world. And a gem from India has taken the first spot.

Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, managed by Taj-Tata Group, has been ranked World's No 1 Hotel by TripAdvisor for 2023.

The luxurious hotel spanning 47 acres offers 78 stunningly restored grand luxury rooms and suites which were once the Jaipur Maharaja's abode.

Rambagh Palace has quite the humble origins. It consisted of only a small garden house built in 1835 for the Queen's favourite handmaiden.

In 1887, it was converted into a hunting lodge for Maharaja Thakur Sawai Madho Singh, as it was surrounded by a forest back in the day.

The area was developed into the palace it is today during the 20th century. It later became the primary residence of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II.

The famed Maharani Gayatri Devi, Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II's third wife, also resided in the palace.

Rambagh was the Jaipur Royalty's residence till 1957, when it was first converted into hotels owned by the royal family.
