A geomagnetic storm this weekend caused auroras to appear in the United States skies, stretching farther south than usual.
The colourful streaks in the sky are usually only seen in places such as Alaska and Canada, and not as far south as the US.
The severity of the storm was rated a Level 4 on the five-tier scale by the Space Weather Prediction Center at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
