TikTok has another fashion trend - 'Recession core', named after trends such as 'Barbie core'. Like the term suggests, it means dressing up for an economic downturn.
TikTok says recession core is in vogue as celebrities & brands have reduced the bling, embraced neutral colours & pared back on logomania.

Balenciaga's latest collection lacked the usual logomania, which fashion commentators on TikTok said is another sign of recession core.
Does it smell like irony that millionaire celebrities & luxury fashion houses would be dressing up for an economic downturn?

Dressing up for economic downturn isn't new. The Great Depression of 30s influenced similar trend with neutral colours, lack of logos, etc.
However, not everyone is convinced that the latest minimalism trend is related to recession. Some just think of it as a fashion experiment.
