An Indian brand, Renani Jewels, has set a Guinness World Record for the most number of diamonds set on a watch.
The watch has 17,524 diamonds, beating the previous record by Aaron Shum Jewelry Ltd, who achieved the feat with 15,858 diamonds.
The watch is named Srinika, after Goddess Lakshmi or the lotus flower. It is a 'watch of good fortune', inspired from Indian mythology.
The watch weighs 373 grams and contains 54.7 carat of natural hand-cut diamonds. The final product has 17,512 white diamonds and 12 black diamonds.
The diamonds used in the watch are sourced through the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) which ensures that all the diamonds are conflict-free.
Guinness authenticated the diamonds with International Gemological Institute Lab (IGI) certificate, to determine that actual diamonds were used.
The main challenge in making the watch was the finding a huge quantity of diamonds in the same colour, size, shape and clarity.
The founder and CEO of Renani Jewels, Harshit Bansal, revealed that it is not the first time that he and his team have broken a record.
In 2020, they set the Guinness World Record for most diamonds in a single ring, with 12,638 natural diamonds encrusted in the ring.
