The Ellinikon International Airport in Greece opened as military base in 1938, then was captured by the Nazis and finally replaced with the Athens International Airport.
The Yasser Arafat International Airport in Gaza was opened as a step to bringing peace to the region, but was bombed in 2001 by Israeli forces.
