Happy World Emoji Day!
Emojis have become the mainstay for a millennial lifestyle as a way of self-expression, so much so that people have actually converted books, including The Bible, in emoji form for better consumption.
Everything has a day dedicated to it these days. So giving something so integral to millennial culture a "day" is a predictable and a cool thing.
World Emoji Day was started by Jeremy Burge, the founder of emoji database Emojipedia. (Welcome to 2016!)
"We use emojis every day, so why not celebrate them? Welcome to World Emoji Day," says the World Emoji Day site.
Why July 17?
"July 17 is famously displayed on the iOS calendar emoji, which makes it perfect date for World Emoji Day," the site adds.
People around the world are gearing up to celebrate this "auspicious" day which, according to rumours, includes hosting emoji parties and emojis-only texting.
Tech bigwigs Google, Twitter and Facebook are rolling out grander plans for the future generations of emoji. Twitter has even created a custom emoji to mark a day celebrating emojis.

Fascinatingly, the most popular emoji used in India is the "folded hands" emoji (do not make religion joke here as people are easily offended*).
