Smriti Irani, who was shifted from the high-profile HRD to lower impact textiles ministry in the June 5 reshuffle of the Narendra Modi Union cabinet, is very popular on Twitter.
It is on Twitter that she fought her many wars - from asking Bihar minister Ashok Choudhary not to address her as "dear" or correcting the English grammar of one Saral by calling him "Beta Saral".
Even though Smriti has not won any Assembly or Lok Sabha election, she lords over Twitter. She landed in many a controversy because of her spats. She ran into an argument with Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi over her security cover. Once she squabbled with journalist Barkha Dutt over the JNU row, accusing the latter of "peddling lies".
No wonder then, Twitter went into overdrive when it was known that Smriti had been moved out from the HRD to the textiles ministry. "ByeByeSmriti" trended on Tuesday and also for a longer part of Wednesday. She was trolled with all kinds of posts - funny, hurtful, vengeful and yes, even supportive.
