5 times real-life Munna Bhais went too far, and were caught

When Raju Hirani wrote the movie Munnai Bhai MBBS in early 2000s, he wouldn’t have thought that his fictional creativity would be put to application in real life by people. When the movie was released in 2004, it got positive response from the audience. But a section of students, especially medical students, drew a negative inspiration from the movie. Cheating in exams via mobile phones and bluetooth devices became a common sight. Students applied the jab ghee seedhi ungli se na nikle toh ungli tedhi karni padti phrase in their careers too.

In one such incident from Indore’s Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, a student was caught cheating using a bluetooth device. But the flying squad was stunned when it came to know the technique used by the medical student.

The student had surgically gotten a coloured micro bluetooth device fitted in his ear from an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon.The student was appearing in the general medicine exam and it was his final attempt. He had been in college for 11 long years, and was struggling to clear it. In his last attempt, he did the unthinkable.

In fact, in all the cheating spectacles in exams in the last few years, though the students were caught, the technique they used for the purpose was not less than something out of a genius mind.

Here are 5 such instances where the real-life Munnai Bhais were caught cheating in exams.

1. 10 MBBS FINAL YEAR STUDENTS

Not 1, 2, 3 or 4, but 10 MBBS final year students were caught cheating in October 2021 at Agra’s FM Medical College. The students who were appearing for the opthalmology exam were nabbed while using a micro-sized bluetooth earphone for cheating.

It all came to light when an invigilator suspected one of the students, who was secretly mumbling something. When he was frisked, a bluetooth device was found. Later, as the invigilator ramped up checking, 9 other students were caught using the micro bluetooth device. The similar device was found in all of these 10 students. The students were dictated answers by their associates who were outside the examination hall.

But alas! Their Munna Bhai technique failed miserably because real life doesn't allow retakes if things go wrong unlike on reel.

2. LAW STUDENT DOING UNLAWFUL THINGS

Who said that only medical students drew inspiration from the Munna Bhai movie. In July 2017, a law student from Delhi University’s Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm college was caught cheating using a mobile phone. After getting caught, he confessed that he drew the inspiration from Rajkumar Hirani’s Munna Bhai movie.

But the student didn’t completely copy Munna Bhai. When the law student was caught by invigilator Jagvir Singh, he became restless and tried to run. But the invigilator was the real life Dr Asthana (Boman Irani) of Munna Bhai, who closed the door sensing that the boy was trying to escape.

The student was later arrested by Delhi Police. The police found a mobile phone and earphones from the student. They got to know that he was getting help from a 'Nirmal Bhaiya', who was assisting him illegally in the exam.

3. SCIENTIFIC JACKETS USED BY MBBS STUDENTS

Four MBBS students from a medical college in Bengaluru went a step ahead and got customised jackets from some foreign country for cheating in the exam. The jacket was designed in such a way that it could concealed all the wires and equipments.

There was also a scanner pen with a bluetooth senser on it. All the student had to do was to scan a question with the pen. The signal would go to the mobile phone, which is in the jacket, and from there to other people sitting far away helping these students. There was also a tiny hearing aid, which was so small that it wouldn’t be even visible to the naked eye from a distance.

By the time the students were caught, they had already written 20-25 pages. But who cares what they wrote. 

4. THE DIRTY CHEATING

In 2016, a student in Hyderabad appearing for his economics exam was apprehended by the examiners when they found a mini microphone in his collar and a mobile phone in his undergarment. The student had hoodwinked the examiners during two exams, but was caught in the third.

It came to light that the intermediate student was assisted by a second year engineering student. Both of them were arrested by the police. Though the exam was economics, the poor chap tried applying his own science and as a consequence, got arrested along with his accomplice. 

5. 92 MUNNA BHAIS... AND BEHENS TOO

In October 2017, at least 92 candidates appearing for the Bihar constable exam were caught by the police for cheating in the exam. The number of people arrested also included girls. The local police officer said that more than 15 candidates were using mobile phones, 7 candidates used bluetooth devices, while 13 were in impersonation.

This impersonation or appearing in place of another was also part of the Munna Bhai movie, when Dr Rustom (Kurush Deboo) goes and appears in an exam for Murli Prasad Sharma (Sanjay Dutt)..
