In the age of social media, it’s difficult to catch a wink, forget about forty. An image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi either contemplating deep or dozing off in the Lok Sabha went viral on social media on Thursday. Twitter users had a field day though the Lok Sabha TV screen grab was no evidence of the PM either catching a nap or concentrating on what Union home minister Rajnath Singh was saying.

For a change, let us cut Modi some slack here. He has been following a superhuman schedule. While his numerous foreign trips have attracted more barbs than bouquets at home, it’s not easy to travel long distances, and never as often as he does. Air travel takes a toll on your body. It’s easy to joke about his foreign trips, but, let us face it, it’s not all fun and games. If you follow the PM’s near-maniacal work schedule, he seems to catch up on his sleep during flights.
So even if he wasn’t lost in thought, pondering over Rajnath’s words, you have to forgive a man a post-lunch give-in-to-nature, and jet lag. He is not one to be caught napping in the House, notorious for snoring MPs. There’s always a first time. By the way, all of us battle this phenomenon. All species do. Here are some:
