We are about to welcome 2022. A lot changed during 2021. It was the first year that we spent in the shadow of Covid, from January to December (unlike 2020, where March introduced Corona to our lives). It was also a year when India ordered a LOT of food online.
Ordering food was a huge saviour during the pandemic. As India was spending more time indoors, food delivery apps were out there helping us beat the hunger pangs.
Recently, Zomato shared a report with interesting details around food orders throughout the year. And you will be surprised to know the most ordered food of 2021.

HERE ARE SOME INTERESTING DETAILS
1. MAKE WAY FOR BIRYANI
Indians ordered 2 biryanis every second. That’s too much biryani, one might think. Well. Not in India. Just like last year, biryani is once again the most ordered food as per the Zomato survey.
2. REMEMBER THE INDIA-PAKISTAN MATCH?
We know you don’t want to recall that day. It was a hard day for sure. Surprisingly, food came to the rescue during the match. 1,062,710 people ordered food during the match just from Zomato. And there are many other food apps (like Swiggy, for example). Now imagine the number of people ordering their comfort food at the same time... to get over the trauma of that match, maybe.
3. SOMEONE ORDERED FOOD WORTH RS 33,000 AT ONCE
Imagine the size of the party for which food worth Rs 33,000 was ordered. TBH the combined cost of my whole year’s orders is not equal to even half of this amount.
4. SHWETA ATE ICE CREAM AFTER TURNING OFF THE MIC
A girl named Shweta ordered ice cream 12 times within a single day. Maybe it was a bad day for her or she was just trying different flavours. Or, maybe, just maybe, she had 12 guests one after the other (although we think ice cream is best had alone, straight from the tub. No judgy looks and all that).
5. INDIANS ATE MOMOS 1,06,66,095 TIMES
Momos are our favourite snack. It is tasty. It is simple. It is filling. It is also something you can devour in one go. Well, all of India seems to agree on the charm of momos, given that 1,06,66,095 momo orders were placed in 2021. That's more than samosas and vada pav orders in the country.
6. MAKE WAY FOR INDIAN JOEY
Joey loves pizza. Similarly, a guy named Tushar from Delhi is a fan of pizzas. He ordered 389 pizzas throughout the year. I wish we were best friends, only if he loves sharing his food.
7. THIS PERSON ORDERED FOOD THE MAXIMUM TIMES
Pritee ordered food 1,907 times from Zomato alone. If you do the maths, this person ordered food around 5.22 times per day. Wait, what?!
