Even as dog lovers are trying their best to save Frendicoes, an animal welfare NGO in Delhi, a shocking case of brutal killing of around 40 dogs has been reported in Kerala's Kannur.
Reports suggest that around 40 stray dogs died after they were allegedly poisoned. A case was registered under section 11 (1) (l)of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 1960 Act, police sources said adding an inquiry was launched into the incident based on a complaint by Bina Williams of Kannur in south Indian state of Kerala.
Though the dog catchers were engaged by the panchayat, now they have washed their hands saying the local people had engaged the dog catchers following increasing incidents of stray dogs attacking people. Reena Richards, secretary of the Maharashtra-based Satjeevkaruna Parivar, an animal welfare trust, said the carcasses of the dogs had been dumped in a heap.
