Why Sreesanth can’t afford to act pricey on Bigg Boss 12

It was a task where he was supposed to tell why he was stronger than two other contestants

Former cricketer Sreesanth must have forgotten that reality shows are apparently his last straw to stay afloat in public memory. He can’t afford to leave such shows in a fit of rage, again and again.

After facing a life ban from the BCCI, following his reported involvement in the IPL match-fixing case in 2013, Sreesanth tried his hand at various other careers. But, as it seems, he has actually fallen from grace. And, one must tell him that Bigg Boss Season 12 is that one chance now which will never knock at his door twice.

In this season, Sreesanth is the most famous name among the contestants (apart from singer Anup Jalota). Other housemates, relatively junior ones who are in awe of the former cricketer, are already calling Sreesanth ‘sir’ or ‘bhaiyya’. But the former cricketer, it seems, is yet to be humbled by the rules of the Bigg Boss house, and has already started throwing tantrums.

The reality show, which premiered on September 16, has taken its usual turn as housemates are picking petty fights, jumping to conclusions, breaking into tears in just a snap of their fingers. On day 2, we saw Sreesanth not taking part in a task, given by Bigg Boss, too wholeheartedly.

It was a task where he was supposed to tell viewers why he was stronger than two other contestants. He appeared nonchalant, as he said he hardly knew them.

But that’s how it happens. The housemates rarely know each other before entering the house. He is Sreesanth and everybody knows something about him; this is apparently the idea lurking in his mind, which explains why he did not think it "necessary" to comment about commoners (non-celebrity guests) in the house.

Eventually, the task was cancelled and a heated conversation sparked among the housemates. During the conversation, the ‘star’ cricketer commented about a fellow contestant’s upbringing. Later, he apologised and said it was just a prank.

But, as we know, all moles inside the Bigg Boss house are destined to become mountains — hence, the episode led to much drama. And our former cricket king did not care about that at all and wanted to quit the game.

As a display of defiance, he even took the mic off, which one is always supposed to wear inside the house. The other housemates started persuading him not to indulge in such behaviour.

After being banned from cricket in 2013, Sreesanth took part in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Ja, and surprised the audience with his moves off the field. According to reports, he did not like it when show judges Remo D’Souza, Madhuri Dixit and Karan Johar did not speak too exuberantly about his performance. He walked out of the show.

While such empty threats of leaving Bigg Boss house are nothing new, given Sreesanth’s temperament, we all thought it was going to be a rerun of what happened on Jhalak Dikhla Ja. But the situation was saved. Later, we came to know that he would apparently have to pay Rs 50 lakh if he quits the show midway (without being evicted) as he is a celebrity contestant and has come in with a hefty paycheck.

After Jhalak Dikhla Ja, Sreesanth acted in a Malyalam movie Team 5, which tanked at the box office. He even joined the BJP and contested in Kerala Assembly Elections from Thiruvananthapuram — only to lose to Congress.

Practically, there is nothing he hasn’t tried his luck at, and in this process, he became the material Bigg Boss always looks for — popular and controversial.

Sreesanth must not sink the ship this time.
