In the animated movie, Wall-E, we see the future on Planet Earth in the year 2805. Earth has become an uninhabitable place that only man-made robots can transcend anymore. The humans reside in a spaceship, all of whom are obese and always strapped to a movable chair, where the only thing they do is eat.
We can imagine Planet Earth in a shambles, but can you imagine what could have possibly led to humans becoming the worst versions we all try to avoid?
It seems like the beginning to that end has already started, or at least that’s what netizens think.
An American family of five was filmed traversing through an airport, all wearing nearly $500 (Rs 37,466) Segway hovershoes. A woman named Jamie put up their video on TikTok and since then, it has gone viral.

Netizens have been stinging in their comments against the family, asking whether humans have become too lazy to even walk now. While some called it embarrassing, others said this is what Gen Z have stooped to.

MEET THE PETERSONS

The family was later identified as the Petersons, from Missouri, made up of Mom Karen (umm...), 63, and Dad Jon, 64, and their kids Katie, 32, Ellen, 30, Matt, 27, and Julianne, 21. The family has other quirky side businesses as well, like being in a family band that they started in 2005.
But they are no wannabe band, they have released a number of albums, went on worldwide tours and even came fourth place at the International Bluegrass Music Competition in 2018. Ellen even participated in American Idol in 2015, where she was among the top 48 contestants.
WHAT ARE HOVERSHOES?
We are well familiar with the fun hoverboards, what with Bollywood’s obsession with them. But what are hovershoes? Well, just like the hoverboards, hovershoes are high-tech accessories. But unlike hoverboards that are one single motorised platform, hovershoes are two skates that need to be worn on each foot.
Segway, the Chinese company which popularised hoverboards, also make hovershoes. The Petersons were also wearing the same brand. They can go up to 12 km per hour, and have a riding time of 45 minutes when fully charged.
The Petersons are not the only ones who seem obsessed with hover shoes; Canadian singer Justin Bieber also rocked the Segway shoes in 2019, while trying to avoid a fall. Interestingly, in 2020, a shoplifting suspect in Florida, cruised into a store wearing the hovershoes, stole a TV among other things and casually cruised out of the store.

Guess, in the year 2805, obese thieves will steal stuff sitting in a hovering chair, while obese police in hover chairs, chase the thieves. Better get your hands on the fastest thing out there!
