KRK is the best thing to have happened to Bollywood

Ajay Devgn on Thursday raised quite a storm in the Modi-Mukesh-led news cycle when he dropped a tweet saying, "Hear what self proclaimed no. 1 critic and trade analyst Kamaal R Khan has to say."

In the video attached, you can hear a phone conversation between KRK and a man later recognised to be Kumar Mangat Pathak, producer of Devgn starrer Shivaay asking KRK, "Why did you bash Shuvaay?" KRK is then heard talking about being paid Rs 25 lakh by Karan Johar, who is releasing his next film on the same day as Shivaay. This made headlines in entertainment circles and even found its way into some mainstream publications.

The question is why would Ajay Devgn care about a random dude like KRK? Or is it that after years and years of painstaking effort, KRK has finally succeeded in carving a niche for himself in Bollywood?

But how does KRK wield so much power? Why are these "superstars"even reacting to this guy?

Kamaal Rashid Khan or KRK as he is popularly known as is a self-proclaimed TV critic and rich businessman. He entered public consciousness with his sting in Big Boss season 3 where he was evicted for throwing around things after he got angry with Big Boss.

He has meandered from cultural irrelevance to being a B/C-grade movie producer and actor, before finally hitting the jackpot with Twitter.

Over the years, KRK has had Twitter beefs with Shah Rukh Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Mahesh Bhatt, Bipasha Basu and many others, including the time Sunny Leone actually filed an FIR against him!

He acts like a fan, drops abuses when his wishes aren't fulfilled, wishes Parineeti Chopra "Good morning," prefixing it with a "my love" and just does a random and weird list of unspecified things that often border on plain lunacy.

But when he doesn't get what he wants..

When KRK dislikes someone on Twitter, he calls them "2RSPpl"- short for "do take ke log (two rupees people)".

By the looks of it, it's clicked with fans on social media who throng to his YouTube channel to, yes hold your breath, actually watch his movie reviews. In fact, his videos tend to generate 1.5 to 2 lakh views each time, big enough to make him a totally relevant and self-made YouTube "film critic".

A friend of mine worked for him on his YouTube channel and said just how aware KRK was about building a public persona, hoping he could turn his raving ranting image into a full-fledged business model.

However, recently he has had a change in tune. He's not hating on every film unabashedly and is trying to be a bigger part of the Bollywood conversation. This included his attempt to get into the "Beat pe booty" craze, which resulted in a video you would really want to unsee.

At this point, KRK has drifted away from his original brand wagon.

He's not as brash and he's stopped calling all films trash. The recording which Ajay Devgn shared proves that he's not really the outsider his fans had thought him to be.

But what he deserves credit for is his ability to become a celebrity out of trashing famous people. It's never worked for anyone before in the EVERYONE-IS-THE-GREATEST Indian social circus.

*cough Subramanian Swamy cough*
