Where languages divide humanity, emojis unite us.
In the age of social media, images have taken precedence over words and these little ideograms in their infinite permutations and combinations can speak more than an infinite number of words. They convey emotions, messages and tone in a way that was not possible before – or maybe since the end of the Egyptian civilisation. It is perhaps worth noting that in 2015 the word of the year was not a word at all. It was an emoji – the “face with tears of joy” emoji to be precise.
One can definitely not underestimate the value of these tiny beautiful things. It is for this reason, and this reason alone, that the world has unanimously given their verdict on the new set of emojis available with the latest WhatsApp updated: They are ugly.

Why are WhatsApp emojis looking like they're all hungover? ????

WhatsApp has rolled out a brand new set of emojis. An Independent report claims that this is the first time the instant messaging app has designed its own emojis, rather than using Apple’s emojis on its Android and iOS versions. Sadly for WhatsApp, the results are less than satisfactory. In addition, the emojis don't look all that different from Apple's. With Google's set, the difference is more noticeable.
And despite the fact that these emojis look similar to Apple's designs, that their execution managed to repulse people is testament to how badly one can goof up with so little.
Let's hope the next update gives us back our old emojis.
