Free Jio services till March 31, 2017: Top 20 highlights from Mukesh Ambani's announcement

RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday, December 1, announced that the Reliance Jio welcome offer will be extended to March 31, 2017. The TRAI had earlier asked Jio to end the offer - which gave users free data and voice calls - by December 3 and not roll out the free services for any new users after the deadline.

Addressing employees, customers and stakeholders, Ambani announced that Jio has become the fastest growing technology company in the world, even surpassing the likes of Facebook, Skype and WhatsApp.

In his address, Ambani also expressed support for PM Modi's recent move to demonetise old currency.

Here are the top highlights:

1. Jio is the fastest-growing technology company, not only in India, but in the world.

2. In the first three months, Jio has grown faster than Facebook, WhatsApp or Skype.

3. Over the past months, the call block rate has come down from over 90 per cent to nearly 20 per cent as of yesterday.

4. Benefits of Jio’s superior technology have been denied to customers due to anti-competitive behaviour of incumbent operators.

5. I want to reiterate that Jio is committed to ensuring that all domestic voice calls by Jio customers will always be free.

6. I am happy to inform that Jio now fully supports mobile number portability. And all customers can retain their existing number when they migrate to Jio.

7. We have recently introduced home delivery of Jio SIMs. Get a Jio SIM home-delivered and activated in 5 minutes through eKYC.

8. This is being progressively launched across India through MyJio and will be available in top 100 cities by December 31, 2016.

9. In the last three months, nearly 900 crore voice calls from Jio to the networks of our three largest competitors were blocked.

10. We are in the process of doubling this network, to four lakh digitally-enabled outlets, by March 2017.

11. On average, a Jio customer is using 25 times more data than the average Indian broadband user.

12. In 83 days, Jio has added 50 million customers on its 4G LTE all-IP wireless broadband network.

13. Jio is, and will remain, a customer-obsessed organisation.

14. Jio is not only delivering four times more data than all other Indian telecom operators combined, but also much faster throughputs than any other mobile network in India.

15. Starting December 4, 2016, every new Jio user will get Jio’s Data, Voice, Video and the full bouquet of Jio applications till March 31 absolutely free. We are calling this the "Jio Happy New Year Offer".

16. All existing Jio customers will get extended benefits of Jio Happy New Year offer till March 31, 2017 on current SIMs.

17. Today, I would like to congratulate Prime Minister Modi's bold and historic decision to demonetise old currency.

18. By doing this, our PM has given the strongest push to growth of digitally-enabled, optimal-cash economy in India.

19. Digitally-enabling transactions will boost economic growth, while bringing unprecedented transparency and accountability. I believe that common people will be the biggest beneficiaries of this change.
