How can you use Digilocker on Whatsapp?
When I first got my two-wheeler DL (Driver’s License), I was told to make a copy of the DL card to carry around. Carrying the original DL meant I could lose it. However, carrying a copy of the DL was similar to not having a DL on you.
However, life has become quite easy since.
Now, you don’t need to carry the original government documents and identity cards along with you and risk losing them. Nor do you have to carry copies of the documents, which are anyway useless. All those documents and cards sit right in your pocket these days.
First, what is Digilocker? It is a GoI initiative under the Digital India programmme. It aims to provide people with access to authentic digital documents, in their digital document wallets. The documents issued in Digilocker are considered to be on par with original physical documents.
With the launch of Digilocker, the government of India made carrying original and valid government cards and documents easier. All you had to do is create an account that would store all your information on the Digilocker app on your phone.
To make our lives even easier, GoI has launched its Digilocker services on Whatsapp too. Now, you can ask for valid online copies of your identity cards and other documents with just a text on Whatsapp.

How to use Digilocker on Whatsapp?
- Save the number +91 9013151515
- Text a ‘Hi’, ‘Namaste’ or ‘Digilocker’ on the number on Whatsapp
- You will find the options – ‘CoWin services’ and ‘Digilocker’
- Click on ‘Digilocker’
- Answer whether you already have Digilocker or not
- If yes, you can go ahead and access your authentic online documents
- If no, then you can set up an account on Digilocker through Whatsapp. All you need to do is enter your Aadhaar number and then enter the OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked phone number.

- PAN card
- Driving License
- CBSE Class X passing certificate
- Class X Marksheet
- Class XII Marksheet
- Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)
- Insurance Policy - Two Wheeler
- Insurance Policy Document
The Whatsapp service for Digilocker works through MyGov Helpdesk (earlier MyGov Corona Helpdesk), which was launched by the government in 2020. It is a chatbot that makes it easier to avail Covid-19 vaccination information and Digilocker services.
