Elon Musk to be Twitter CEO until he finds someone 'foolish enough' to take the job

Elon Musk has said he would resign as the CEO of Twitter as soon as he finds someone "foolish enough" to take the job. Until then, he will be the chief executive of the company. He said this in response to his Twitter poll where he had asked users if he should step down as the head of the social media company.

The 24-hour-long poll ended with 57.5 per cent users voting Yes and 42.5 per cent saying No. Over 17 million users voted in this poll and over 10 million voted Yes.

"I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job!" Musk tweeted. "After that, I will just run the software & servers teams," Musk tweeted.

Musk suggests the poll might be rigged: After the poll results came out, Musk engaged with several Twitter users who raised questions about the poll outcome. Musk also suggested the vote's outcome might have been affected by automated bot accounts.

• Polling company HarrisX on Tuesday tweeted out their own poll of Twitter users, in which 61 per cent voted to keep Musk as CEO. "Interesting. Suggest that maybe we might still have an itsy bitsy bot problem on Twitter..." Musk said in a response.

Musk's Twitter polls: Musk, who calls himself a free-speech absolutist, has often used Twitter polls to make decisions about the social media platform.

• This includes his decision to buy Twitter and also the reinstatement of the account of former US president Donald Trump and other suspended users.
• Musk on Monday also suggested that future Twitter polls might only be accessible to those paying for the platform's subscription service.

Trouble at Twitter: In November first week, after Musk said the company was losing $4 million a day, Twitter laid off half of its 7,500-strong staff. Musk fired the top senior executives at Twitter and the entire board of directors.

• He also sacked more than 5,000 contractual employees at Twitter without any notice, and stopped all remaining employees from working from home.

Controversies with journalists: Musk was criticised heavily as he suspended the accounts of several journalists last week after complaining some had published details about the movements of his private jet, which he claimed could endanger his family. Some of the suspended accounts have since been reactivated.
