Chris Gayle slammed a 147-ball 215 in the World Cup match against Zimbabwe in Canberra on February 24. Before Tendulkar, the best individual score of 194 was shared by Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry and Pakistan's Saeed Anwar. On Tuesday, Gayle became the first non-Indian and fourth batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs.
Gayle in his knock of 215 scored 16 sixes which equalled the record for most in an ODI innings, and he surpassed Gary Kirsten's 188 against the United Arab Emirates in 1996 as the highest score in a World Cup innings before he was caught out on the last ball of the innings.
