When Elon Musk put his Twitter CEO status up for a vote and unwittingly got voted out of the position on the platform, a number of people lined up with their pitches to take over. But the winner is someone nobody ever guessed.

While Elon Musk did not step down saying he'll go only when he finds the best CEO in the world to take over Twitter, he seems to have found the person or... shall we say furball.

Meet Floki!

Elon Musk introduced Floki, his Shiba Inu pet dog as the new Twitter CEO, who's absolutely good with numbers, and most importantly better than "that other guy" (we don't know whether Musk means himself or Parag Agrawal).

Floki may not have the shining degrees from MIT or Stanford (like Parag Agrawal), but he's the one crazy enough to take the job.

Also, he's got style, meaning the Steve Jobs black turtleneck.

Now, the board of Twitter comprises a dog, Elon Musk in a Devil's Champion samurai costume, and a kid we can't recognise.

No wonder, Floki's "appointment" has sparked a meme-fest on Twitter, definitely helping the platform become livelier as Musk worries about the constantly declining engagement rate.

There's also some monetary benefit that came out of Floki's appointment. Cryptocurrency Dogecoin's value has picked up after a slump in the past few days.

Note the steep rise towards the end, that's latest, in a 5-day margin.

But who's Floki?

We need to know that Twitter is in good paws at last.

  • First, we know that Floki is the pop culture-famous Shiba Inu dog breed.
  • Floki is also named after the TV series Vikings character named Floki Vilgerðarson, a boat builder and a trickster.

  • Other than that, Floki's qualifications so far remain unknown, other than the fact that he's Elon Musk's furry friend.

Now, what's up with this obsession with Shiba Inu dogs?

  • Shiba Inu is a dog breed native to Japan. 'Inu' literally means dog in Japanese.
  • The Japanese Shiba Inu is a small-to-medium-size hunting dog with a golden and white short fur coat.
  • In the modern world, they are preferred as pets for their small size that can fit in an apartment.
  • They are also often confused with another Japanese dog breed, the Akita Inu.
  • Japanese Akita Inu (remember Hachi: A Dog's Tale?) and Shiba Inu have similar golden and white fur coats, but the latter is bigger in size and has thicker fur (note that the American Akita is a different breed that looks similar to Akita Inu in build but has a black and white coat).

  • Shiba Inu became Internet's darling when the picture of a 2010 picture of a female pet dog named Kabosu from Japan went viral sometime around 2013.
  • The picture showed Kabosu seemingly giving a side-eye while crossing its front paws.  The picture became a favourite among meme makers.

  • With Kabosu and another Shiba Inu, the word 'Doge' also went viral. By December 2013, a cryptocurrency coin called Dogecoin was born with the meme face of Kabosu.

Where does Elon Musk fit into all this?

Elon Musk has been an outspoken fan of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, created by the Dogecoin Foundation, a non-profit organisation.

  • While Musk has clarified time and again that he's in no way related to the foundation, his company Tesla owns an unknown amount of Dogecoin.
  • Elon Musk has also been the only person single-handedly responsible for the rise of Dogecoin's value.

What do you think; will Shiba Floki be better as Twitter CEO than Elon Musk or Parag Agrawal? (Our bet is on yes)
