It must be the most slanderous posthumous comment ever hurled at an officer of India's prestigious National Investigation Agency. Slain NIA officer Tanzil Ahmed, who was brutally murdered a few days back over yet unascertained reasons, would have been heartbroken had he heard what the respected BJP minister had to say about him.

Union minister of state for food processing, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, BJP MP from Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, when asked about her comments on the late DSP NIA (deputy superintendent of police, NIA), Mohammad Tanzil Ahmed, her first and immediate reaction was: "Where? Pakistan?"

The minister had to be corrected and prompted by the media persons asking the questions. Realising her gaffe, Jyoti embarked upon a long winding disclaimer and she said: "You will be shocked to know that I have no clue of the NIA officer as I was very busy in my political activities. I did not get time to go through the newspapers or news channels."
Despite this obviously flimsy excuse, it is shocking that a high-ranking member of Indian legislature is so deplorably clueless about the political goings-on in the country. Moreover, her instinctual response is indicative of the deep prejudice and bigotry that fills the rank and file of the ruling party.

@SuryahSG Niranjan Jyoti, Ramdev and Saskhi Maharaj are doing perfectly fine without having EVR Periyar for a progenitor.

With comments such as "would have beheaded those not saying Bharat Mata ki jai were it not for the law" from Baba Ramdev meriting no action from the government, it is more than apparent than Indian citizens from the minority communities, even if they happen to be serving officers of the top state organisations, are not safe from relentless tirade against them.

Tanzil Ahmed, who had been at the heart of a number of successful probes against Indian Mujahideen and related terror cases, nevertheless fell prey to a majoritarian minister's inherent bias simply for his "Muslim-sounding name".
Ahmed was shot dead on April 3 by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants who also grievously injured his wife. She is still critical and is being at the Fortis hospital in Noida earlier today.
