Why did Justice SN Dhingra delay probe report in Vadra land deals?

Ending speculation, Justice SN Dhingra on Thursday informed the Haryana government that he is not in a position to submit the final report in a probe concerning dubious land deals by some companies in the state, including that of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra, during Bhupinder Singh Hooda's rule, stating that he requires six to eight weeks to compile the findings. 

Sources said that Justice Dhingra has also informed the state government that he has received fresh information about the involvement of state government officials who paved the way for the illegal land deals during the Congress regime. 

"Justice S N Dhingra has informed the state government that he requires additional time to compile the report.The government will act accordingly," Amit Arya, media advisor to chief minister, said. 

The term of the one-man commission of inquiry probing issues concerning the licence(s) granted to some entities in Gurgaon Sector 83 for developing commercial colonies by the department of town and country planning, Haryana, ended on Thursday. 

Justice Dhingra had earlier claimed that the report was ready and that he would submit the same to the state government before the term could expire. There were speculations that he may indict former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, his trusted bureaucrats or some of the alleged violators including Robert Vadra in the report.

This also left the Congress, currently in the Opposition, fuming. Alleging political vendetta, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda wrote to Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki terming the commission illegal and the undisclosed report's contents "politically motivated". 

The party infact launched a three-pronged attack on Haryana's BJP government.

It termed the commission unconstitutional alleging that no prior Cabinet approval was sought to extend the term and alter the terms of reference.

It also positioned itself as a victim of political vendetta, saying that the commission was constituted purely on political grounds to target the Congress leaders. 

The Congress also tried to muddy the waters by terming Justice SN Dhingra a beneficiary of the state's largesse. It said that Justice Dhingra got undue favours from the state government in the name of paver blocks.                                                                               

Anil Vij defends Justice Dhingra 

Haryana health minister Anil Vij on Thursday defended Justice SN Dhingra following the opposition's attack. Slamming the Congress, Vij said that besides heading the one-man commission, Justice Dhingra is also a citizen of India involved in charity and plans to run a school for underprivileged children.

"What is wrong if he (Justice Dhingra) demanded money for paver blocks? Is he constructing the path to his home? The Congress is making a mountain out of a molehill. The report has, in fact, scared them as they are fearing action," the health minister said.
