BJP came to power in Manipur after the Congress government toppled due to defecting MLAs. Now, BJP, Congress and other parties are in the election fray again. Will the people of Manipur go with the Congress party or will they retain their current BJP government?

Voting in the state was held from February 28, 2022, till March 5 for 60 assembly seats. The number of seats needed to win the Manipur State Assembly Elections is 31.

Exit poll results say that BJP has a clear win. Counting began at 8 am.

      • Incumbent Chief Minister Biren Singh of the BJP says he’s confident of being elected and exit polls also seem to predict a win for the BJP. But the question remains whether BJP will be able to come to power all by itself.
      • If the results throw up a hung assembly, then BJP lead alliance government is likely to come to power. Already, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has offered its support to the saffron party and the party is also hoping for support from Janata Dal (United).
      • Congress is not hoping to break huge grounds in Manipur and is open to alliance with any non-BJP party.
