'Pakistan's Pappu': Why Pak PM Imran Khan is being referred to with a new title

Imran Khan's geography is bad. Really bad. But is it so bad that he can't figure where Pakistan is going?

Iran and Pakistan share an embattled border and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Iran visit — which came just a week after about 14 persons were killed, reportedly by an Iran-based armed group — was observed closely by the rest of the world.

But, as Imran Khan’s speech was minutely heard, a bigger problem was discovered — Imran Khan’s geography.

We want to give him the benefit of doubt, that it was a slip of tongue when he said Germany and Japan share a border — but he didn’t rectify the error. Instead, he repeated 'the Germany and Japan border issue'.

“The more trade you have with each other... your ties automatically get stronger. Germany and Japan killed millions of their civilians, until after the Second World War. The border region of Germany and Japan (Yes, the second time) — they had joint industries. So now there is no question of them ever having bad relations because their economic interests are tied together,” Imran Khan said, referring to what Iran and Pakistan can do to better their ties.

The only problem was, he didn’t mention France.

We don’t know why Japan was on his mind.

This is not even the first time that he flunked in geography.

Last year, in an attempt to encourage Pakistani ambassadors and High Commissioners in other countries to pave the way for foreign investment, Imran Khan said, “Africa is an emerging country. What are we doing in Africa?”

So, Imran Khan’s geography is not what he should be remembered for anyway. He studied History, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford.

Therefore, when he said China was building a train that will exceed the speed of light, it must be taken as just hyperbole.

He also falters at uttering Urdu words.

During taking his oath, he said 'Roz-e-qayadat' (the day of leadership) instead of “Roz-e-qayamat” (the day of judgement).

In recent times, the word 'Pappu' has adopted a negative connotation as it got firmly attached to Congress president and opposition neta Rahul Gandhi, for his past and memorable faux pas.

But Imran Khan is not a leader of opposition any more.

His situation is far more precarious.

Both Pakistan and Iran are accusing each other of providing safe havens to terrorists.

As Islamabad is blaming Tehran for the recent Balochistan attack, Tehran has been blaming Pakistan for a suicide attack in which 27 members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard were killed on February 14 — just when Pulwama in India occurred.

This escalation also coincides with Pakistan's worsening relationship with India.

Will Imran Khan be able to save Pakistan's boat is the big question.

Will he be able to even figure out which part of very deep waters it's going into is the biggest question though.
