On a rain drenched, Monday…
The crowds sat, expectant
Spectators at the spectacle…
Security on high alert
66th Republic day celebrations…
Two hour long parade
On thousands of meek heads…
Rain drenched escapade
Humble brollies over VIP pates…
Symbols, that set them apart
Public’s missing umbrellas,
The divider, disruptive, discordant
Commoners do not contract fever…
So much, for the Republic
Sitting drenched, cold and clammy…
Row upon row, a compliant public
Children, their parents, without umbrellas…
Mobiles, bottles and car keys
Yet liveried attendants held cover…
Over blessed heads of VIPs’
Beautiful India, proud and glorious…
Instep soldiers to a marching band
Divisive thoughts, rain fed reflections…
Bharat remains an unequal land
