Shardiya Navratri marks Goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura and ends with Vijayadashmi/Dussehra celebrations. The nine-day festival begins on October 15 this year and ends on October 24. Each of the nine days is devoted to the worship of Goddess Durga, a symbol of feminine strength, courage and determination. Her nine forms or avatars are a manifestation of the various qualities that the Goddess or women in general embody throughout their lives.
