Why is KCR going to launch a national party?

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) will be launching a national party soon, ANI reported quoting sources on Sunday.

The name of the new political party is expected to be ‘Bharatiya Rastra Samiti’.

KCR has been on a 'Bharat Yatra' (India tour) rallying the opposition parties, other than the Congress, to form an alliance against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

He had earlier met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and former PM HD Deve Gowda among other opposition leaders. KCR had said there will be a big change at the national level soon.

WHY NOW?

KCR's national ambitions are not new. In 2021, the 20th year of formation of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), KCR had hinted at floating a national party where the stakeholders are likely to be regional parties, reported the Indian Express.

KCR has been taking jibes at the BJP and PM Narendra Modi and the BJP and twice skipped receiving the PM in Hyderabad. The tussle between KCR and the BJP is not new but the attacks have now become more direct.

PM Modi took a dig at KCR recently while he was addressing a rally in Hyderabad. 'Dynastic politics is the biggest enemy of democracy. Development begins when dynastic politics end,' he said.

KCR also fired back saying, 'There's a lot of 'bhaashanbaazi' (speeches) and promises, but what is happening in reality? Industries are closing down, GDP is falling and inflation is rising.'

GETS SUPPORT FROM TELANGANA NRIs

Telangana NRIs across the world have unanimously passed a resolution in support of KCR's decision to enter national politics. Telangana NRI coordinator B Ganesh moved a resolution showing NRI's support for the TRS supremo and KCR's entry into national politics in a virtual meeting attended by NRIs from various countries, reported India Today.

The NRIs from Telangana said that “India's development would be possible only under the leadership of KCR”.

They also said that India is a land of natural resources but successive governments have failed to utilise them to achieve the goals of development.
