Why did TV actress Vaishali Takkar kill herself? New police chargesheet reveals truth about suicide

An affair. A couple mentally harassing a woman. The breakdown of a marriage. And blackmailing with an inappropriate video. These are some of the recent developments that have come out of Vaishali Takkar’s suicide case. The TV actress, who had appeared in popular soap operas like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Sasural Simar Ka, had died by suicide on October 16, 2022.

Indore Police have now presented a chargesheet to the court that provides more context behind Vaishali's sudden step. 

What exactly happened before the suicide? Blackmail was a main reason behind her suicide.

• It turns out that Vaishali was in a relationship with her Indore neighbour and businessman Rahul Navlani,who was also a married man. 
• With Rahul having shot an inappropriate video of her without her consent, he and his wife Disha Navlani mentally harassed and blackmailed Vaishali. 

Matters turned worse when the couple even leaked the video to California-based engineer Mitesh Gaur, who was Vaishali’s soon-to-be husband.

• With Gaur calling off the marriage, Vaishali decided to kill herself, leaving behind a 12-page suicide note. 

How Vaishali got involved in an affair: The chargesheet suggests that Vaishali and Rahul were vacationing in Goa in August 2021.

• Matters got intimate as they had booked a room at Goa’s Kaza Boutique Hotel. Rahul even went to the extent of promising to marry her.
• During their Goa stay, the businessman recorded the indecent video of the actress without her consent. 

Rahul and his wife are prime suspects: After their 2021 Goa vacation, Rahul apparently broke it off with Vaishali and blackmailed her with the video, along with his wife Disha Navlani. 

• In 2022, Vaishali was to get married to Mitesh, following which the Navlanis sent him the video on Instagram.
• Vaishali’s marriage was called off after this. 

As Vaishali’s suicide note explicitly alleges physical and mental torture by Rahul, he was arrested on October 20, 2022 (four days after the suicide) and kept in judicial custody.

• It is unclear if Disha was arrested too but the suicide note also mentions that Disha had been constantly supporting her husband in the mental and physical harassment that Vaishali went through. 

How did Mitesh get involved in the investigation? After Vaishali’s suicide, the police investigation involved Mitesh flying to India to testify.

• While details of his testimony are undisclosed, the report suggests that Mitesh complied with the police by sharing the video he received from the Navlanis, and other photos and screenshots that would help the police decide the cause of her suicide. 

What about Rahul’s bail? Despite Rahul being in judicial custody since last October, a sessions court in Indore granted a three-month bail to the prime suspect. 

• The bail was granted as his lawyer Rahul Pethe had submitted in court that the prosecution had failed to gather any electronic evidence against his client. 
• Now, with the new revelations, Rahul’s ongoing bail might be called off.

With the chargesheet shedding light on the affair and its blackmail-filled aftermath, it is yet to be seen if the Navlanis would face any further legal issues.
