The lifeless body of Shani Louk, the 22-year-old German woman reportedly abducted during the surprise Hamas attack at a music festival in Reim in the Negev Desert, has been discovered. Louk's sister, Adi, confirmed her sister's tragic fate on Instagram on Monday, October 30.

The official X (formerly Twitter) page of the State of Israel verified the news as well.

What had happened?

  • Louk's ordeal began during the Hamas attack on the Tribe of Supernova music festival in Israel, where she was seen in a distressing video, appearing lifeless in the back of a truck.
  • The circumstances surrounding her well-being were unclear so far, with Louk's mother initially stating that she was alive and receiving medical care in Gaza.
  • However, the confirmation of her passing came, as her mother, Ricarda, was informed that her daughter was no longer alive.
  • Shani's family had previously received indications that her credit card had been used in Gaza, hinting at possible theft during her abduction, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Confirmed by family

  • According to a Jerusalem Post, a cousin of Louk's provided further confirmation of her death, explaining that an official notice from the IDF indicated the discovery of a bone matching Louk's DNA at the base of her skull.
  • Medical experts said that the absence of this very bone made it impossible for Louk to have survived, the report added.
  • However, the exact timeline of her condition and the initial reports of her being held alive in a Gaza hospital remain uncertain.

The Supernova music festival, a symbol of peace and unity, was marred by the ruthless assault by Hamas terrorists, resulting in the tragic loss of over 260 innocent lives, including Shani Louk.

Israeli Government expresses sorrow

  • The Israeli government expressed its condolences and sorrow, stating, "Shani who was kidnapped from a music festival and tortured and paraded around Gaza by Hamas terrorists, experienced unfathomable horrors. Our hearts are broken. May her memory be a blessing."

This attack on the Supernova music festival was one of the initial targets of the Hamas assault on Israel on October 7 that has so far claimed around 1,400 lives. Around 220 more hostages remain in Hamas captivity.
