Pakistani snooker World Champion Ahsan Ramzan, 17, brought back pride and recognition for his country, but the country's police do not seem to recognise his contribution. Ramzan was detained by Lahore Police on Wednesday night for playing snooker at a snooker club late at night.

  • The World Champion, who has been released now, revealed in a video that he was mistreated by the police and humiliated.

  • Ramzan has also demanded an investigation by Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif into the action of the police officers involved.

What happened?

Lahore Police raided the snooker club where Ramzan was practicing with others at around 11.30 pm on Wednesday, August 2. They demanded that the club be closed.

We told them that security cameras and guards were also deployed at the premise, and that we were just playing snooker and had not done anything wrong.

  • Ramzan said that the police refused to listen that they were practicing and even when he told them he was a world champion.
  • The snooker player and a few of his associates were held at the police station for 20-30 minutes before their friends came to get them out.

  • Ahsan Ramzan broke down while recounting the incident in a video. He said that some of the police officers even used offensive language while belittling his achievements.
If you are world champion then what has it got to do with us... you have done it for yourself.
- Ahsan Ramzan recalled a police officer's response

Punjab caretaker CM has sought a report on the matter.

In 2021, Ahsan Ramzan set a new record becoming the second youngest snooker player in the world after Chinese player Yan Bingtao to win the World Amateur Snooker Championship. Recently, he also won the U-21 Asian Snooker Championship 2023.
