Not only did this man immediately inform the cops when he saw a body being dragged around by a Baleno car, he also decided to chase the car discreetly to keep the cops (on d phone) updated on the vehicle’s movements. #Delhiaccident pic.twitter.com/7kk3l2mCvK
The incident only came to light after an eyewitness reported it to the police at around 3.24 am. The witness chased the car for nearly an hour, before the body fell off on the road. The police came to the spot after the body had fallen off the car.
Delhi police have faced intense criticism for their oversight on New Year's day. Questions have been raised on why there were no police checkpoints anywhere between the distance where the car was driving around, why the police did not find the accused dragging the body along while a witness was chasing the car, and why despite it being New Year, there was bad security arrangement.
The victim's family also alleged foul play given that the victim's body was found naked on the road. However, Delhi police refuted claims that she was sexually assaulted.
