In Mehsana district, about 100 km from Gujarat's capital Gandhinagar is India's first solar power village that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with solar energy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared this on Sunday (October 9) saying that the village, Modhera, known for the Sun Temple, will now be known for solar energy.

According to the government, the locals will now save 60-100% of their electricity bill by using solar energy.
How? This was made possible with a scheme launched by the central and local government in March 2022 known as the ‘Solarisation of Modhera Sun Temple and Town.’
