Here's more about him:
Roger Binny is a former allrounder who is most fondly rememebered as the hero of the 1983 World Cup. Binny had scalped 18 wickets, the highest in the tournament.
He was also the first Anglo-Indian with Scottish descent to play cricket for India.
He has played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India between 1979-87.
Binny retired from cricket in 1987 after playing his last One Day International.
In 2000, he became the coach of India Under-19 team, which also won the World Cup when Mohammad Kaif was the captain of the team.
After his successful stint as the coach, Binny had aspired to don the role of coach of the senior Indian cricket team, but the BCCI had given the job to John Wright.
Binny is also credited for making way for cricketer Yuvraj Singh at a time, when many cricket stalwarts had rejected him. Binny would say, that the job of the coach is to let a player play his natural game and excel in it. Roger Binny with the world cup winning team. Photo: Getty Images
Mohammad Kaif also had spoken well of Binny and remembered him as a cool and composed coach. Kaif said that Binny would not try to be in the limelight and would only speak after giving it a thought. Kaif added that Binny always ensured that the atmosphere in the team remained calm.
After his role as coach of India's under-19 cricket team, Binny on September 27, 2012 was appointed as one of the five members of the selection panel of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In 2015, he was removed as the selector. He was removed because his son Stuart Binny was also playing for the national team and the time and thereby to avoid the conflict of interest, Binny was removed the national selector.
After that, in 2019, when the clouds of spot fixing got on the Karnataka cricket, Binny took over as President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
