American beer company Boston Beer is launching a cannabis-infused iced tea in Canada, where marijuana is legal. No, it’s not all pot-based drinks if you are wondering, but the product will contain 5 mg of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), the ingredient in marijuana responsible for the euphoric high. The product, TeaPot, will launch in July.
The jury on the amount of safe THC consumption is split. While some say one shouldn’t consume more than 2.5 mg of edible THC, others say the standard dose is 5 mg.
Boston Beer Company will not be dealing with marijuana directly and has a Canadian grower and manufacturer on the job. With the product, the company wants to provide its consumers with a socially acceptable form of marijuana consumption.
“Cannabis beverages offer the most socially acceptable form of consumption for the industry. You don't have to sneak away—you can consume it unabashedly with your friends and family,” Forbes quoted Paul Weaver, the head of Boston Beer Company’s cannabis division.
Marijuana iced tea in Canada is not the only legal, convenience store product induced with largely illegal drugs. While not yet federally legal, some states in the US have certain amounts of marijuana legalised for various purposes including recreational uses.
Perhaps, it is time to put the cocaine also back in Coca-Cola, as Elon Musk once suggested? And of course, it will first be launched in Canada, where small amounts of opioids have been decriminalised
