Gujarat Police busted a fake Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament racket in the Mehsana district. Acting on a tip off, the police arrested four men for staging the tournament. The gang conducted fake cricket matches which had Russian punters from three Russian cities betting on these games.
The men accepted bets on the social media app Telegram from these Russian punters.

As soon as the news spread, it spread like a wildfire. Several international media outlets like the BBC, The Guardian covered it. The incident, though embarrassing, brings Indians at the centre of attraction. Also, this isn’t the first such incident. Several incidents like these have happened in the past in India.

1. 27 PEOPLE FOUND INSIDE AN AUTO

An auto driver in UP’s Fatehpur was fined for Rs 11, 500 for carrying 27 people in his auto. The auto was spotted at the Bindki Kotwali area of Fatehpur by the cops, news website India.com reported.
The cops were shocked to find 27 people stuffed inside the auto which had the capacity of carrying only six people.
2. GOAT ARRESTED FOR MUNCHING ON JUDGE’S GARDEN
In 2016, a goat in Chhattisgarh was arrested for munching on plants of a judge’s garden. The goat, named Babli, was arrested with its owner Abdul Hasan. The goat was detained at the police station because it ate flowers and vegetables at the judge's garden. The police also said that the owner had previously been warned about his goat trespassing the garden but he did not take it seriously.
A case was lodged against the owner. Hasan, however, was released on bail after his arrest.
3. GANG WAR BETWEEN DOGS AND MONKEYS
In December 2021, a story from Maharashtra’s Beed district about a gang war between dogs and monkeys went viral.
It was reported that more than 250 puppies were thrown off buildings and trees by monkeys who were avenging the death of a monkey who was mauled by the dogs.
Later, it came to light that th puppies might have died due to starvation or after being left on the buildings or by falling off trees for not being able to keep the balance.
Whatever, the real story might have been, but the incident drew a lot of attention and memes too.
4. HUSBAND DIVORCES WIFE AFTER SHE COOKS MAGGI FOR BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER
Even Nestle wouldn’t have thought that their beloved noodles would be a reason for separation of a couple.
In Karnataka, a sessions court judge ML Raghunath ,recalled an incident when a husband filed for divorce after being fed up of his wife for only preparing Maggi noodles in breakfast, lunch and dinner. The judge recalled this case as the Maggi case, Times Now reported. The couple later separated mutually.
5. LOK SABHA CANDIDATE CRIES AFTER GETTING ONLY 5 VOTES FROM A FAMILY OF 9
A Lok Sabha candidate from Punjab’s Jalandhar cried on camera in 2019 after he claimed that he was betrayed by his family as they didn’t vote for him.
The candidate, Neetu Shutern Wala said that he was disappointed with his family. He claimed he had attained just five votes but had nine voters in his family, The Indian Express reported.
He also alleged that the EVMs were rigged.
6. COUPLE SUE SON FOR RS 5 CRORE FOR NOT GIVING A GRANDCHILD
A couple in Uttarakhand decided to sue their son for Rs 5 crore for not being able give them a child even after six years of marriage. The couple, Sanjeev (61) and Sadhana Prasad (57) claimed that a grandchild would be a return for all the payment they made for their son’s overseas education, lavish marriage in 2016 and a honeymoon trip.
The highly unusual lawsuit was filed on grounds of “mental harassment”.
