Delhi University Commerce grad Vaibhav Taneja is the new CFO of Musk's Tesla

In a strategic manoeuvre, electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has announced Vaibhav Taneja as its newly appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO), succeeding Zachary Kirkhorn, who recently disclosed his decision to step down from the position. Taneja will be heading finances at Elon Musk-owned Tesla now.

Who is Vaibhav Taneja?

• Vaibhav Taneja, a 45-year-old Indian origin person, steps into his elevated role with an impressive career spanning over 17 years of financial expertise across various multinational corporations.
• Taneja is a Delhi University commerce graduate (1996-99), and has seen a remarkable progression in his journey within Tesla and has established himself as a trusted leader within the organisation.
• According to his LinkedIn profile, he is an alumnus of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India; and since 2006, he has been a certified chartered accountant.
• Before his tenure at Tesla, Taneja honed his financial acumen during his stay at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) between July 1999 and March 2016, where he worked as an assistant manager, then got promoted to the post of senior manager, across both Indian and American chapters.

• Taneja's association with Tesla began even before he joined Tesla, when he was the Vice-President (Corporate) at SolarCity Corporation – a solar panel development enterprise acquired by Tesla in 2016. Taneja is said to have played an instrumental role in the said acquisition.
• During his time at SolarCity, Taneja showcased his adaptability by assuming various financial accounting roles, affirming his ability to navigate the dynamics of corporate.
• Stepping onto the Tesla stage in May 2017, Taneja started his journey as Corporate Controller, overseeing financial reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls.
• His exceptional performance paved the way for his elevation to Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) in March 2019, a role he continued to excel in.
• Now, as CFO, Taneja's realm of influence expands even further, encompassing critical financial strategies that will steer Tesla's fiscal trajectory.

• Taneja holds proficiency in financial statement auditing and crafting SEC filing documents. He has guided many clients through initial and subsequent public offerings, aiding companies in pinpointing areas for growth.
