Can you eat the same food for the rest of your life? Yes, we know the answer is a big no for everyone (especially if everything is ok with you). But recently, this man named Don Gorske celebrated 50 years of eating McDonald’s Big Macs every day.
He celebrated the 50th anniversary of his big Big Mac day on May 17 this year, and got his name in the Guinness Book of World Records.
What's the record? May 17, 2022, marked the 50th anniversary of Gorske eating McDonald’s burgers every day... except for eight days. And not just one, he ate two burgers every single day.
He celebrated his 50th anniversary at the same outlet in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, USA where he ate his first Big Mac in 1972.
In 1972, after having his first Big Mac, he said, “In that moment I said 'I'm going to probably eat these for the rest of my life'.” He fulfilled the promise. He continued to do so... for 50 long years!
On May 17, McDonald’s placed a huge board saying, “Congrats Don on 50 years of Macs.”
He also has a collection of burger containers from different periods with different designs and pictures.
But this isn't his first recognition: In 1999, the Guinness Book of World Records marked Gorske's name for eating the maximum number of Big Mac burgers. This was at 15,490 burgers.
In August this year, the Guinness Book of World Records updated the numbers. In August, Gorske broke his own record, and created a fresh one: of eating 32,340 burgers in his lifetime.
What is his health status though? Burgers aren't quite healthy, right? Ok, this might come as a surprise for you (too) -- Gorske is absolutely healthy! A report in The Washington Post says Gorske’s blood pressure and cholesterol levels are absolutely fine. He gets them tested regularly.
What’s the secret to his fighting-fit health? Gorske eats healthy for the rest of the day. He eats one burger for lunch and one for dinner. He replaces the fries with some asparagus (you know, healthy stuff). For an evening snack, he eats a banana.
