Blackpink's Jisoo may make K-drama comeback with new zombie thriller, Influenza

Blackpink Jisoo is likely coming back with a new K-drama. The idol is considering a lead role in the series Influenza, by the writer of the Oscar-winning movie Parasite. Influenza is an original series for a new South Korean streaming platform Coupang Play. 

Jisoo earlier debuted as an actor with the K-drama Snowdrop alongside Jung Hae-in.  

Jisoo's agency YG Entertainment confirmed the offer saying:

Influenza is just one of the dramas that Jisoo has received offers for and is considering.

Other than Jisoo, Park Jung-min has been offered the male lead role in the series. Park is best known for his performances in the movies Bleak Night (2011), Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet (2015), Keys to the Heart (2018), and Deliver Us from Evil (2020) and dramas like Hellbound. He also authored a best-selling book titled A Useful Person.

Influenza is one of the works he is reviewing.

• 'Influenza' is a story about a soldier and his girlfriend breaking up right before a worldwide zombie outbreak. 
• The story is based on a novel by Han Sang-woon, a South Korean writer.
• Actor Park Jung-min has been offered the role of Jae-yoon and Jisoo has been offered the role of Young-joo.
• Jae-yoon joins the military at the age of 26, after trying to avoid South Korea's mandatory enlistment for men. 
• Concerned about his future and relationship, he decides to break up with Young-joo. At the same time, a zombie outbreak spreads across the world.
• Both Jae-yoon and Young-joo have to overcome their fears and insecurities to face a zombie apocalypse. 

Influenza is a highly anticipated work by writer Han Jin-won, best known for Parasite, which won him Best Original Screenplay at the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020.

Zombie thrillers have been a favourite genre in the South Korean entertainment industry. From Train To Busan to All of Us Are Dead, zombie dramas and movies have been a fan favourite.
