The shortlist for this year's Booker Prize is out with six books and five nationalities making the final cut. This has been an interesting batch of nominees as it features the shortest ever Booker-nominated book and the oldest ever Booker-nominated author.
The former is Irish author Claire Keegan's novella Small Things Like These, a work of historical fiction set in a small Irish town in 1985. The book is just 112 pages long. Meanwhile, British children's fantasy author Alan Walker has made the shortlist at the age of 87 with Treacle Walker, a coming-of-age story that blends myth and folklore with familiar adolescent themes.
While America is represented by Elizabeth Strout (Oh William!) and Percival Everett (The Trees), Sri Lankan author Shehan Karunatilaka (The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida) and Zimbabwean author NoViolet Bulawayo (Glory) are other shortlisted authors this year.
