The sassy brown influencers ruling the West on Instagram
Indians in the West are often recognised for various reasons, and we have several stereotypes attached to us, ranging from being extra smart to super kind (naive, perhaps). However, we may never have thought that we would be known for our sarcasm and sassiness but thanks to these influencers from India, many of whom are currently living in the West, people around the globe are realising that Indians can be sassy too.
Here's a list of some of the best ones:
1. Prayag Mishra AKA Pookie
Meet Prayag Mishra, the 25-year-old Canadian sensation rocking TikTok with his simple yet sassy vlogs, often films in his car.
With roots tracing back to India, he has turned his followers into the mighty 'Pookie Nation' or affectionately dubbed 'Pookie Bears', amassing over a million fans in just a blink of two months.
- Move over, world – Pookie's in town. His video generally consists of him talking to his viewers, who he calls 'Pookies'.
- His famous catchphrase, It's the way you act, is not only funny but has become one of the trending audios this month, with thousands of women commenting in the comment section pretending to be his girlfriend, wives, etc. It's basically a delulu world.
2. Sri AKA Simplyysri
Indian women are often stereotyped as shy and kind, but @Simplyysri is here to spill all the Indian secrets, and express the emotions we go through with so much sass and humour.
Her videos will give you your dose of laughter, and her content is relatable not only to all Indians but also to NRIs living abroad.
She has gained 282K with just 180 posts.
3. Twinkle Standley
Currently in Dubai, Twinkle Standley is another one of those influencers whose account shot to fame very quickly, like the other two mentioned above. Twinkle is known for her funny and honest videos, where she talks about relationships, dating, makeup and brown-girl problems.
But our personal favourite is the video which went viral too; the one where she acts dumb on a phone call with a scammer who tried to get her card details. What happens next? Twinkle not only gave a taste of their own medicine to the scammer but also made them so angry that they ended up abusing her.

4. Pushpek Sidhu
How many have you heard of Chai Tea or Bread Naan and wanted to go scream at the influencer to stop the bastardisation of Indian food? Now, don't worry, Pushpek Sidhu is here.
According to his comment section, "Saare Indians ka badla le raha hai (Taking revenge on behalf of all the Indians)."
So if you don't know about him, here's a quick sum of what he does: He picks up a dish so famous that you know he lying when he says he is trying it for the first time... like, say, pasta, and then eats it the way Western people eat Indian food, i.e., ruining it all.
For instance, in one of his latest videos, he says, "Trying Italian food for the first time", and where is eating pasta, take a look (use earphones, btw):
5. Vivacious Varenya aka Meditation bowl girl
Now we have talked enough about the elders; now it is time for the youngest on in the group - Varenya. Varenya got her fame from her English-speaking videos, where she not only gives us a preachy Ted Talk but also has an accent which puts every Indian living in abroad to shame.
Her most famous video till now is the one where she talks about the meditation bowl and how it has calming properties (we don't know what stress a toddler can have), which received more than 2.9 million views on Instagram!
