Girls have always embraced the mini bag trend and graciously answered the eternal question, "How do you fit everything in there?" But this mini bag defies expectations—it's not just a bag; it's a 'work of art.' Wondering what we're talking about? Let's dive into the dimensions: 657 by 222 by 700 micrometres. To put that into perspective, it's smaller than a strand of your hair, measuring a mere 75 micrometres. Unbelievable, right?

But the craziness doesn't stop there. This bag was recently auctioned off for approximately Rs 52,30,000. Let's delve into the details.

More about the bag

This bag, nearly invisible to the naked eye, radiates a fluorescent yellowish-green hue and draws inspiration from a renowned 'Louis Vuitton design.' However, the brain behind this remarkable creation, named the "Microscopic Handbag," is an art collective based in Brooklyn called MSCHF, rather than the luxury brand itself.

According to MSCHF, this bag can effortlessly navigate through the tiniest of spaces, such as passing through the minuscule opening of a needle. In fact, it's claimed to be smaller than a grain of sea salt.

If you're wondering how you can even see the design, don't worry—the bag comes with a microscope for viewing.

How was the bag made?

  • The company employed a manufacturing technique called two-photon polymerization, meticulously using 3D printing technology to produce minute plastic components and bring the bag to life.
  • The sale of this creation took place on Joopiter, an online auction house established by Pharrell Williams, the current Men's Creative Director of LV.
  • However, it's important to note that MSCHF's chief creative officer, Kevin Wiesner, revealed to the New York Times that the art collective did not seek permission from either Williams or the French fashion label to use their logo or design for the Microscopic Handbag.

MSCHF's 'drops'

Founded in 2016, MSCHF has gained notoriety with its unique "drops." They were the creators of the extraordinarily long and attention-grabbing 'red boots,' which went viral on the streets of New York.

But where did the trend of mini bags come from?

The trend of mini bags has made a significant comeback in recent years, captivating fashion enthusiasts worldwide. While its origins can be traced back to the 1960s, it regained popularity in the early 2010s and is once again in vogue in 2023.

Luxury fashion houses and renowned designers played a pivotal role in popularizing mini bags by introducing miniature versions of their iconic handbag styles. Brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Hermès released mini editions of their timeless classics like the Louis Vuitton Speedy, Chanel Flap Bag, and Hermès Birkin. These downsized renditions retained the signature design elements, craftsmanship, and brand identity, instantly becoming covetable fashion items.
