On June 5, during the MTV Movie and TV awards, Lionsgate premiered the first teaser of the Hunger Games prequel titled The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The teaser shows a golden snake slithering towards a golden bird on a tree, while both animals defrost.
Watch the teaser here:
The prequel will star Tom Blyth as a young Coriolanus Snow, before Snow became President of Panem and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12 in the 10th annual Hunger Games.
The official synopsis of the Ballad reads, 'Years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol.”
“With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem's attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favour. Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy's race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake,” the synopsis continues.
With the release of the teaser, longtime Hunger Games fans are overjoyed. Here is how fans are reacting on Twitter:

Rachel Zegler must have the greatest agent in modern Hollywood history. Has a Spielberg movie, a DC movie, a Disney movie and in The Hunger Games series, all in one shot.
