With the onset of celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II completing 70 years on the British throne, a song on Prince Andrew, Duke of York, is going viral.
Comedy rock group The Kunts’ song Prince Andrew is a Sweaty N**** is topping UK music charts. The group is known for its protest songs.
The song is a reference to Prince Andrew’s civil sex abuse case with Virginia Giuffre.
Giuffre was a victim of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Giuffre claimed that Prince Andrew had sexually assaulted her when she was 17 years old. The Prince and Giuffre settled the case out of court for an undisclosed amount of money, before the case went to trial. There was also speculation that the massive amount of settlement money went from the pocket of British taxpayers.
The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations begin on June 2 and will go on till June 5.
The song goes:
The grand old Duke of York, he said he didn’t sweat.
So why did he pay 12 million quid to a girl he’d never met.
The band’s YouTube page says that the song was released on May 26.
The Essex band’s frontman, Kunt, told NME, “The timing this year felt perfect, given Prince Andrew’s bizarre, shameful, and cowardly behaviour as he attempted to dodge any sort of accountability for the alleged sexual assault on Virginia Giuffre, followed by the attempt to sweep it all under the carpet with an out of court settlement.”
As of May 31, the song ranks #12 on the Official Trending UK Chart. It is expected that the song will rank higher when an updated chart is released on June 3.
On the song's webpage, The Kunts answer the question, 'Why on God’s earth would you do this at the time of Her Majesty’s Jubilee?'
The answer simply reads, 'If you really don't know the answer to that you're on the the wrong website. Google Alfie Boe and Sarah Brightman.'
Even though Prince Andrew has stepped back from all public duty, he is expected to attend the service at St Paul’s Cathedral, which will be held on June 3.
