Japan Airlines, a prominent Asian airline, has introduced a pioneering solution aimed at enabling you to pack lighter on your trip to Japan and, in turn, contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions.

What

On Wednesday, July 5, Japan Airlines made an exciting announcement regarding its latest venture, a clothing rental service named "Any Wear, Anywhere."

  • This service allows you to conveniently rent a package of clothes in advance, which will be delivered to your accommodation upon arrival in Japan, whether it's a hotel or an Airbnb.
  • Once you reach your hotel or Airbnb, collect your clothing from the counter.

Japan Airlines has partnered with Sumitomo Corporation, who will oversee the reservation system and clothing fulfillment process.

  • The service is currently in its trial phase, running from July 5 of this year until August 2024 (and only for Japan Airlines passengers), providing passengers with an opportunity to try this out.
  • But once successful, it will be looking to roll out its services to other fellow members of Oneworld carriers like American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Malaysia Airlines.

But how does it work?

The process is very similar to how you buy your clothes online. According to the website, all you need to do is:

  • Go to their website
  • Select your size and item of clothing (you will have the option to rent up to nine clothing items)
  • Add your accommodation address
  • Make the payment

And

  • You will receive your clothing items once you reach your hotel or Airbnb, and you can retain them for a maximum duration of two weeks.

The program presents a range of clothing sizes, from small to extra-large, categorised as "casual" and "smart casual."

  • For instance, a smart-casual women's ensemble consists of a black peacoat, three sweaters, two tops, two pairs of wide-leg pants, and a skirt.
  • A man seeking casual winter essentials could select a package containing a puffer coat, two sweaters, two pairs of pants, and a sweatshirt.

Since the service just started yesterday, most of their clothing items are listed as 'coming soon'.

The prices range from anywhere between ¥4,000 (INR 2,300) and ¥7,000 (INR 4,000).

Also, keep in mind that you need to book your clothes one month prior to your arrival.

What do you think about this service?
