Gen Z girls are ditching the Girl Boss era for the Snail Girl era. But what is it?

Numerous trends have inspired us to become better versions of ourselves, such as the 'IT girl trend' and the '75 hard trend.' Then, we had the 'Girl Boss trend,' which encouraged many girls to become 'girl bosses,' work harder, and seek new opportunities. However, it now seems that the Girl Boss trend has faded away, making room for a new era: the Snail Girl era.

So, what is the Snail Girl era?

Gen Z employees have introduced concepts like "Bare Minimum Mondays" and "quiet quitting" to shake up the work scene. But do you know what's currently making waves on Instagram and social media? It's the rise of the "Snail Girl."

While the Girl Boss image was all about non-stop hustle, the Snail Girl era is all about taking things slow and promoting women to prioritize their health, happiness, and self-care. This fresh concept was coined by Sienna Ludbey, the designer and founder of Hello Sisi, in a recent article for Fashion Journal. In her September "hot take," the creator of handcrafted bags and accessories declared that her inner Girl Boss is no more.

A snail girl takes her time and creates. The speed at which everything is put out into the world is just getting faster, but she doesn’t care. She’s running her own race, and maybe that race isn’t going anywhere but home and back to bed.

Snail Girls on social media

Following the viral trend, many women are deactivating their social media accounts, like Instagram, to showcase their transition from the 'Girl Boss era' to the 'Snail Girl era.'

This trend also symbolizes the importance of slowing down and taking a break at times. Whether it's planning a short trip, attending a party, or simply indulging in your favorite show or book, it means not rushing so fast that you forget about self-care and taking care of yourself.

Why is the Girl Boss era considered toxic?

The Girl Boss era revolves around the idea of women striving to compete on equal footing with men in the workplace. It's based on the belief that young women should transform themselves and dedicate their lives to their careers as the ultimate path to success.

While this concept may initially seem promising, it has, over time, led to women experiencing severe burnout at work. There appears to be no end to this relentless pursuit, often neglecting self-care and happiness. While it may generate income for women, it does so at the cost of inner peace, ultimately contributing to its downfall.

Gen Z is rejecting it because, as experts suggest, they prefer a more leisurely lifestyle over enduring toxic workplace environments and long hours associated with the Girl Boss concept.

For instance, Instagram user Lauren recently shared her transition from the Girl Boss to the Snail Girl era, saying, "Lately, I've been feeling burnt out and in need of a change.

"After pushing to grow, grow, grow... it's finally caught up with me. And the Snail Girl life is calling! To me, it's not a major change or upheaval; it's a recognition of what I want and honoring it," she said.

However, it's important to note that you can balance being a "Girl Boss" and being kind to yourself in the Snail Girl way to maintain a perfect equilibrium in your life.
